we met was bed ridden. His wife showed us with gnarled, fingerless hands that all they had to eat was plain white rice. Daniel explained to us that the man would die unless he was able to start a diet with more nutrients. We learned that while the government provided housing and some food they didn't pay for any of the medical needs of the lepers which are needless to say numerous.
Tonight we are going back to the same leper colony to put on a large meal for the people there. Daniel told us that he likes to do this as often as he has enough money but his resources are spread thin as this is one of three leper colonies in addition to all the other ministries he is involved with. Nevertheless Daniel is very confident that all his and these people's needs will be met. We have been very struck by the joy we have seen in everyone from the beggars at the street dinner to the lepers to the orphans. This says a lot to us about the nature of joy and where true joy resides.

Once again. beautiful pictures that make my heart melt.
i must agree with anne. they are incredible. i hope and pray that you are all doing well :)
The children seem so joyful, and the men so burdened. This must be a hard place to eek out a living. I am grateful that you can provide the crutches for the woman with no foot, though it sounds as there are so many needs and so few resources to meet those needs. Pastor Daniel is truly a blessing as he works to care for and invite these people to know Jesus. How are you holding up under the weight of all you are learning? I keep you in my prayers. Leslie (TM)
I am in awe of Daniel's ministry. Truly a giving, compassionate man. You guys are doing so many awesome things to ease the burdens of people there. I'm so proud of you! You are the hands and feet of Jesus to them. I just have to share this quote from the book "The Ragamuffin Gospel"--
"Jesus spent a disproportionate amount of time with the poor, the blind, the lame, the lepers, the hungry, prostitutes, the least, the last and the downtrodden. By accepting them as friends and equals, he had taken away their shame and humiliation. By showing them that they mattered to him as people, he gave them a sense of dignity. His physical touch made them feel clean and acceptable."
Even so, you guys are doing the work of Christ by reaching out to the poor and the hungry. He will keep you safe. You are surrounded by prayers!
